Paper Pieced Celebrations Blog Hop and Giveaway!

We are excited to welcome you to the Paper-Pieced Celebrations Blog Hop, our second of the year! The challenge is to create a paper-pieced quilt that captures the essence of a holiday close to the hearts of our talented Ambassadors. It’s all about infusing those stitches with the spirit of celebration!

Foundation Paper Piecing, Paper Piecing, English Paper Piecing – what’s the difference?

In patchwork, “foundation piecing” was originally a method used to stabilize pieces of fabric that were stitched together. Paper Piecing is simply a type of ‘Foundation Piecing’. In Paper Piecing a design is drawn on a sheet of paper (the foundation), usually a quilt block or part of a design. The fabric patches are placed on top of the paper and then stitched in place by sewing machine using the stitch-and-flip method. The paper foundation is torn away when the block is complete. ‘Paper piecing’ is often confused with ‘English Paper Piecing’. However, the techniques are entirely different! ‘English Paper Piecing’ is a pure hand-sewing method—no sewing machine required.  The pattern is worked with individual paper pieces which are each covered with the desired fabrics and then sewn together into intricate patterns by hand using a whip-stitch or over-sew method. The paper pieces are removed once a shape is sewn in on all sides.

What method will our Ambassadors choose to delight you with their celebratory projects? How will their projects reflect the festivity of the holiday? Expect a whole lot of creativity, talent, and joy. They’re gearing up to showcase their amazing quilts bursting with color, design flair, and that unmistakable festive spirit.

Throughout the next three weeks of the Paper-Pieced Celebrations Blog Hop, we’ll be unveiling stunning quilts that showcase the fabrics from our latest collections, hitting the shelves this month.
