Meet Island Batik Ambassador Carolina Asmussen!

It is time to introduce you to another wonderful 2020 Island Batik Ambassador! Carolina Asmussen joined the program in 2019 and we are incredibly excited to have her continue with this year’s team!

Before moving to the United States, Carolina lived in Switzerland, where, in 2010, she discovered the magical world of quilting.

Fisherman’s Tale quilt, created for the Island Batik Ambassador Piece Of Blog Hop (November 2019). Carolina used the fabric from Island Batik Sand Bar collection, designed for Kari Nichols of Mountainpeek Creations by Kathy Engle, Aurifil thread and batting by Hobbs. Carolina is an architect and the projects she makes always reflect her attention to detail and a great ability to balance shapes, colors and lines. Her favorite techniques include free motion quilting, geometric compositions with rulers and micro-quilting.

Up.Side.Down quilt, made for the December 2019 Island Batik Ambassador 3D Challenge. Carolina used the fabric from Island Batik Black Pearl collection by Kathy Engle, Aurifil thread and batting by Hobbs. After moving to Connecticut, Carolina started teaching quilting classes and workshops based on her own methods and artistic background. Her goal with students is to make them able to recognize the strong elements of their own quilts and use free motion quilting designs to create unique work.

Today, Carolina is an award-winning show teacher who also had the honor of seeing her work displayed at the International Quilt Festival in Houston/Chicago, American Quilters Society and many other national and international quilt shows.
