Meet Island Batik Ambassador Joanne Hart!
Say hello to Joanne Hart – our UK Ambassador and a creative talent behind Unicorn Harts! Joanne’s beautiful patterns have been published in many quilting magazines including Quilt Now, Molly Makes, Love Patchwork and Quilting and we are so happy to have her join the 2020 Ambassador team!

Joanne discovered the world of quilting as a teenager, but it really took hold in her 30’s (that’s when she made her first quilt) and now she’s addicted: “I started out wanting to make clothes. Then I would see all these wonderful quilts people were making online, I was particularly drawn to foundation paper piecing and instantly fell in love with the process. I love how a crisp bold image can be brought to life into fabric form and Island Batik fabrics add wonderful texture to any project!”

Quilt, made for the 2019 August Island Batik Beat the Heat Blog Hop. Joanne used Island Batik Petal Pushers fabric by Kathy Engle, Pecking Order pattern from Missouri Quilt Company, Aurifil thread and batting by Hobbs. Quilting is both Joanne’s calm and her escape – it brings her joy and is definitely her favourite hobby. It also is a business and you can visit her store at the link at the end of the post to see her gorgeous foundation patterns!

Quilt, made for the 2020nd Batik Ambassador challenge, Creative Borders and Binding. Joanne used Island Batik fabric, her Unicorn pattern, Hobbs batting, a needle by Schmetz Needles and Aurifil thread. As you might have already guessed, Joanne’s favorite color is pink: “I love sewing with pink, blue and rainbows, the brighter the better! But pink is always my starting colour if possible and then I build around it”.

Quilt, made for the 2020 February Island Batik Log Cabin Blog Hop. Joanne used Island Batik Bloomers fabric by Kathy Engle, Hobbs batting, a needle by Schmetz Needles and Aurifil thread. Foundation paper piecing and appliqué are Joanne’s favorite techniques, but she also enjoys improv: “Each piece you make is totally unique and there is no right or wrong way to do it! It’s really nice sometimes to not follow a pattern and just go with the flow, it always turns out great!”

Ohio Star Quilt, made for the 2019 September Island Batik Ambassador challenge, Child’s Play. Joanne used Island Batik Sunny Side Up fabric by Kathy Engle, AccuQuilt cutter and dies, Aurifil thread and batting by Hobbs.
