and Adam Dewar are a husband and wife team who run and own
Island Batik and have many years experience of working together.
They owned a successful fashion garment company in South Africa
for 10 years, prior to extending their talents to Batik
manufacture.
Their families are both from the same village in
Eastern Cape, South Africa, but they did not meet until years
later in Johannesburg. After 18 years as business and life
partners, the opportunity arose to relocate to the United
States. They selected Cardiff, Calif. because it has a climate
very similar to their home town.
Since
the age of 18, Moira has studied and devoted many years to her
passion, a love of fabric and design. She designs and
co-ordinates the fabric lines. Both her and Adam travel to Bali
where they work closely with their production team to arrange
the beautiful fabric groupings which they are always so thrilled
to present at market.

Adam
has a background in business development and production, and is
responsible for company operations and planning. He has vast
experience in international trade and multinational business
relations. When he can get away he enjoys ocean kayaking and fly
fishing. Most importantly, Adam is the greatest fan of and
support to Moira’s designing talent.
Moira
and Adam have a 12 yr old son, Alex, who is in 6th
grade in California. He is an artistic young boy, and loves
traveling to Bali where he gets to design his own batik
paintings. His best friend is his dog, “Sipho”, which is a Zulu
name meaning “gift”. Alex loves sports and is a talented first
baseman.
